Psychologist profile
My name is Mrs Gemma Gibbon, I am a qualified Child Psychologist with a BSc in Psychology and Counselling and a MSc in the Psychology of Child Development, with a diploma in Art Therapy.
Born and educated in London, England I relocated to Kingston, Jamaica a few years ago with my Jamaican husband and family.
I have personal experience of living and working with children who have disorders, my youngest son has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and my (step)son has Dyslexia.
It has been a wonderful learning experience to see how positive and effective my treatment has been, watching my children grow from strength to strength and using that knowledge to positively affect other children's lives has been incredibly rewarding. My goal in Jamaica is to educate the educators and parents to understand and identify all the needs that our children require to reach their full potential in life and for that life to be happy and successful. In effect, I want Jamaica's children to grow into emotionally healthy adults so that in 20 years there won't be the type of negative dysfunction that troubles our society today. It may be a tall order but its got to start somewhere, sometime by some-one and why shouldn't that some-one be me- right now! If you are a school governor, a headteacher, a principal, head of the parent/teachers group you have to do something positive and pro-active- get in contact with me, pull some money together and get all the information you need in an interesting, informative, interactive presentation or workshop from me and then spread the information to all your friends and family. What you learn will impact the way you act and re-act with your children giving positively different results, it gives you an understanding of what makes them 'tick', why they behave that way and what you can do to afford a positive and healthy response. The world can be a better place if we all take tiny steps to improve it, understanding goes the longest way of all.I have been all over the world and experienced different races, cultures, creeds and countries and it enriched my life greatly. But the one thing that remains the same in all these countries are the children, their needs, wants and desires, what is different is the help and knowledge that is available in these countries to positively affect these children's lives for the better. Jamaica needs more help
I want to help children and I love Jamaica and Jamaica needs my expertise in these specific areas, explore this resource and utilise it for a better, brighter future for Jamaica
